Environment Programs
ILF's programs are designed to empower communities by providing essential resources and training to low-income farmers. We also advance cutting-edge solutions in Clean Energy, Food & Agritech, and Circular Economy by supporting startups- offering mentorship, networking, and financial backing.
Drip irrigation
Improving Farms: Transitioning Farmers to Drip Irrigation
We support low-income farmers with training in new cultivation techniques and help them transition to drip irrigation. Using drip irrigation, farmers are able to reduce wastage of water and adopt high value, water intensive crops like chili. These crops have a higher yield, ensuring that the farmer increases their earning potential along with being part of the solution in water conservation.
Farmer Upskilling
Improving Farms: Increasing Farmer Income
The biggest challenge that Indian farmers face today is around lack of market access, inability to get the best prices for their produce, and high commission prices of middle men. Groundnut productivity in India is low due to moisture stress, poor soil fertility, pests and diseases, and low inputs, and cultivation of the crop on marginal and submarginal lands. ILF works to help farmers own a major part of the ground nut supply chain and earn a substantial increase in income by producing groundnut seeds, while also producing and marketing premium cold pressed groundnut oil. We train them on how to produce the oil, as well how to package, market and sell it, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the program.
Income generation and water conservation
Improving Farms: Sustainable Solutions for Water and Income
We created a transformative project aimed at enhancing agricultural sustainability and income generation. This initiative focused on rainwater conservation and introduced solar-powered dryers to local farmers.
These dryers not only extend the shelf life of produce but also create new income opportunities by enabling the sale of dried goods. A key component of the project was the establishment of a borewell recharge pit to address critical water scarcity issues, promoting groundwater replenishment.
The project successfully impacted nearly a hundred impoverished farmers, significantly improving their agricultural practices and economic prospects. Through innovative solutions and targeted training, the initiative has fostered sustainable water management and enhanced livelihood opportunities for local farmers.
Innovation Support
Accelerating Innovation for Sustainability
ILF hosted the inaugural Climate Tech & Sustainability Acceleration Program, a 1-month acceleration program for startups in the Agri sector, with a key focus in domains like Clean Energy, Food & Agritech, Circular Economy, and more. The startups were given support ranging from mentor sessions and networking events, to paid pilot opportunities and financial support of 35 lakhs to the winning startups.
