‘Honesty is the best policy’ may seem like a ‘thought-for-the-day’ chalked on a school blackboard. But Aruna who teaches at one of the schools under the ILF - Improving Education Program feels that it is the best route to trudge through life. Especially, when one is constantly in the field of shaping young lives.
Aruna considers her profession of over two decades a very noble one. “They are like a ball of clay. And the hands that constantly shape this ball are of the parents and the teachers. It is not an easy task,” she states.
Reminiscing about her own childhood and school days, she furthers, “I remember as a kid, my favourite teacher played a huge role in shaping my life and career. I clearly remember her face, and her hands, how she came to school on her kinetic scooter. My parents had great trust in her, which helped me trust her more.”
A teacher of mathematics and social sciences, before digital learning avenues were introduced, Aruna felt limitations in offering classes on topics that covered the students’ social environment. “Taking a field trip or going out to accelerate learning wasn’t always possible. With the eLearning platform, I was able to explain and visually show how wind moves, and types of winds like primary winds, secondary winds and tertiary winds,” she explains.
Furthering the conversation, she shares, “Similarly, during chapters around empires and wars, it would have been ideal to visit a fort or a museum but since that wasn’t possible, watching videos in class came in handy for better understanding.”
Aruna feels their work as teachers in limited settings has only gotten easier. Children are more curious now than ever and what else satisfies a good teacher than that!
